About Me – A Male Counsellor in Exeter
A bit about me…
My name is James and I am a qualified male counsellor (MNCS Accred). Alongside my counselling practice, I have recently taken up an associate lecturer position with Exeter College to teach counselling theory and skills.
I previously had a career in IT working for large corporations until a life change occurred and I realised it was time to work with people rather than computers. As a counsellor I feel privileged to offer my help and support to people that need it, in a safe, respectful and caring way. My practice is based in central Exeter where I carry out predominantly Person-centred Therapy, although I do draw on other forms of counselling if I think they may be of benefit to the client.
As a male counsellor I hope that I can help make counselling more accessible to other men, whilst removing the stigma of mental health issues for all gender identities. There is a shortage of male counsellors across the country and I feel this is especially the case for counselling in Exeter, which is why I have based my practice here.
